Self isolation: Covid 19

Being in self-isolation because of Covid 19 and health reasons reminds me of another time where i was living in a small space.

Situated: 48 weeks in student accommodation: 2009

This was my first piece of work that was to start my research into architectural situations while I was attending the Camberwell UCL, MA Book Arts course in 2008/9. During my 48 weeks of study I lived in small room with an on suite bathroom: college student accommodation
Spending lots of time in my room, I started to my manipulate graph paper imagery, creating design elements which still appear in most of my artists’ books.
For this book I used these elements in combination with pencil lines, folds and text to represent how it felt to be living in this confined space. The front of the concertina explains the beginning of the seemingly difficult situation: the reverse of the fold represents a focusing and understanding that can arise when confined to a small space.

Here is a book that responds to the situation the whole world finds itself because of the covid 19 pandemic.
Now….I am confined to a space, self isolating, staying home, scared, nervous, agitated, panic stricken.

Situated: undefined time: 1 bed flat: 2020
