Sunday workshops in Ealing. Japanese Style paper making and book making

Well, here are some images of my two day workshop. . . .

My students learn how to use everyday, easily obtainable kit that enables them to make washi papers. Yes, obtaining the Kozo fibre can be slightly problematic but not impossible and as the medium gets more popular as an artists medium the easier it will get.

Part two - on the following Sunday we sat down and made some creative books using the papers made in the first session....plus some of my own papers were shared.

And....
the leaves are falling....on my way home I saw these wonderful leaves.......

HIGH-RISE

Here is my new edition......HIGH-RISE.

The images were photographed during a walk around a residential area near the Barbican in central London. I had these images for a few years and pondered their usability for a book.
Recently with the terrible events surrounding the affordability and availability of homes in London - to just look around the city and everywhere there are high rise buildings rising out up into the skies, I researched the theories of architects regarding these buildings in conjunction with current news columnists and academic writers.

This will be available at the Small Publishers Fair - Conway Hall, near Holborn tube station, 6th and 7th November

Working on my new book ....
regarding Urban Architecture

will document this on my other blog

It has taken longer than I thought - but here is my web site updated
with lots of images and information.
It will continue to have some new bits and pieces -
but for now this is it.

The process of letting go of the last version was rather painful emotionally. It is like letting go of something that you have made and had for a long time.
I had to compromise to create something better. Change is good!

here's a link to my workshop Japanese style of papermaking.

So.......here the lino print is printed on the papers....
there is a canal running through the Tottenham Marshes as well as some overhead power lines....
lots of nettles and cow parsley too...

Wednesday, May 13, 2015

Today started to make some papers to use in next weeks' class........ processed the nettles that I collected from the Tottenham marshes (a few minutes away from my flat) and added to some gampi and abaca; with a little sizing....

I have been attending the Working Men's College in Camden taking a beginners printmakers course for the last couple of weeks.
The past two weeks my work has been directed by my book arts practice and trying to come up with a new way to visualise the image of one of my fav buildings in London. http://mbsbookarts.blogspot.co.uk

This week I was really tired after a full week-end and a full day of work....so when faced with the task of simple lino cutting I really started to lose the plot....just creating an image that showed what the different cutting tool marks.

Then the 'class shared chocolate chunks'  kicked in and I started to play around with the different ink colours - got another piece of lino and let the tools lead the way - heavily influenced by my walk on Sunday in the Tottenham Marshes collecting nettles for to eat and to make paper!!!

Papermaking for Book Arts

Last November I had the pleasure of teaching the 'Papermaking for Book Arts' at Morley College in London .... just south of the river!

A really talented group of students who used the 5 weekly sessions to use handmade paper to contextualize their research and ideas.
