Paper Crafts: Maker's Guide

Forgot to mention...

I am so honoured  to be part of this great book. I put together a project that responds to a handmade book in the V & A's collection....

University of the Creative Arts, Farnham UCA

It was great to be invited back to the Illustration Department at the University of the Creative Arts, Farnham yesterday.
I ran a workshop for the BA Illustration students
...'Fold'...
A book structure making session that combined their ideas with technical refinement, measurement and making skills. You could have heard 'a pin drop' they were concentrating so hard....great students!!

We covered the flag book, sewn in the fold book, and then the fold with pocket structure.... kept them very busy and engaged..

Parallax Art Fair

It's been a couple of weeks of framing and now all's done.....
http://www.parallaxaf.co/
This is a new venture for me in this, my home country! My work was accepted for the Parallax Art Fair in Chelsea...excited and stressed.
Oh well... I used to exhibit framed work when I lived in Minnesota - did it then - can do it now! The only difference is that in Minnesota I was paid a stipend....here in London I pay for the privilege - that's just the way it is for us artists today.
Handmade paper, chine colle, pencil, collage, collagraph.

Japan

My daughter took me to Japan in June.
Eight days of walking and cycling around Kyoto. "what a joy!"

Everyone says....Go to Japan in spring time to see the cherry trees bloom!
I say - go in June and see the hydrangeas bloom.

Amazing....really makes me want to make more paper.

Newness

At last ... it took a while

The new edition of 'Pressed', a magazine for handmade papermakers, users of handmade paper and for those interested in using the medium for their arts practice.

For this edition I have chosen to share the work of several book artists who have chosen to make handmade paper an integral element in their book arts practice. Each artists uses a different aspect or technique: showing that this diverse mediums’ processes allow for infinite experimentation with different fibres, colouration techniques, inclusions and fibre manipulations, which in-turn, enable a combination of context with materiality in their work.
I also write about my current papermaking research and describe a five day
workshop for papermaking book artists.
Also.....it includes four types of handmade paper samples tipped in!
